Abbe’s Ruminations: Storyboard of Crazy Thoughts
After releasing my new novel, The Underpainting, to the world ( yes, a bookstore in Germany bought it as well as another one in England) my mind is free to wander.
When I don’t have a plotline or clarity on my next book, I gather my crazy ideas and place them on what I call a storyboard. Sticky notes arranged and rearranged on my desk backing and sometimes on the wall.
This morning, I jotted down a list of words : communication, transportation, conversation, soundwaves, cableways, railways, skyways, subways, ocean waves.
I continued with opinion, onion, discord, chords, voice, choice, trails, views, above, below, moving, changing, electrical waves, internet.
I chose Nouns without verbs, adjectives without an anchor of place or time.
I post scenes, visions of a cruise ship skimming the ocean, below the depths, a line of heavy cables snakes the bottom. Another scene of a skyway with a child alone in gondola. For some reason I see an engineer staring out from a cable car, a women holding a diver.
And yet my divergent mind sees history and faces, images of my travels, markers of the small town where I live, and individuals who could be characters, heroes, and friends. Somehow, I’ll pull a story together. This is my mulling time.
In the meantime, I’ll continue with painting, learning to play the keyboard, and writing these snippets.
I wish you all a wonderful holiday season. Be generous with your heart and thoughts.
Thank you for listening to my ruminations, I value you.
Here are a couple samplings of my recent art—more fun that artistic.
