An Unexpected Gift Take this to warm you. A shawl woven in blue and yellow A hand-me down moment Where eyes met And women connect. A pebble glistening in the sun Rainbows of metallic pasts Honed by the river’s edge A skipping stone Heart shaped in time and hope. Lichen, crusty with heather curls, Seasoning the fallen tree, Creeping along the bark To join with the moss Adornments fashioned Without purpose or loss. The hug of baby arms Holding tight The delight in lights. Expressions of joy, no words can provide. Wows and woes, only they can know. Gnarled hands holding mine Entwined Like gloves softened With churned butter. Warmed Over steamed tea Lemon scented morsels Of gifted time.
