An Experience becomes a Good Story

Once I sunk into a snowdrift
My father tells the crowd.
The punch line: she was so small
That only her voice gave her away.
Once I lived without electricity or running water,
My children thought I went to school in a horse and buggy.
I thought I had cancer of the stomach,
Only to find out I was four months pregnant.
As an adult, I got lost jogging.
I couldn’t find my parent’s house
Through the maze of look-a-like homes
Shorter than when I was younger
Wiser than I was small
More philosophical
Then funny,
I still appreciate a good yarn.
And of course, the laughter
Also hides some pain.
