My 1972 self You were right to be skeptical Then you questioned all that you saw. Exposed to change You jumped at the chance To deviate from the norms of family. Brave beyond common sense, You explored different cultures. I admire that in you, Even though I remember The trembling of your heart. Indecisions graced your mind As the politics of a new age Scrambled the balance. You let go of what you knew Love sat in the wings. Please don’t despair As history repeats itself. Pain comes even in love. Remain true to your heart With an openness. Survival for some is easy Those without material wealth Have in their heart, soul, and mind The good of all. Think not of what is good for me But what will nourish the future. Don’t let your skepticism become bitter. There is always more Even as the world politics Crushes down upon us. Individuals matter Question, Question Care, and Care more. I give you permission to Falter and cry I send you hugs As we meet In later years. I will need them To carry forward Righting an upside-down world.
