Inspiration comes in fits and spurts, laced with time, warmed with the heart. Each of my offerings began with a whisper, a pause to see, hear, and reflect.

Name Me
Know my name,
For I am here
waiting in silence
to be acknowledged.
I belong,
but without a name
I don’t exist.
Know my name,
for I am of you
and you are of me.
I belong,
with shared needs
I voice my will,
so you can survive.
Fossilized
I see fish and birds as one
Mammals that walk and swim
Leftover body parts
Remnants of how we flew or swam.
And how we’ll take off in flights.
A monkey tail to twirl over head
Epoch leaps fossilized.
Flights of Fancy
Close your eyes and spread your arms
Swing your hips and turn around
Let the music take you to the clouds
And beyond the stars.
Defy the pulls of gravitation
The serious matters of societal pressures
Two-steps, and dosie- does, tap to lift off
Where the air is thin, and the horizons extend.
Beyond the know
Is wonder
Elegant leaps of faith
To the impossible
Pirouette in revolutions
That spin ideas of imagination
Let the music cushion your return
A slow dance to ground you.
Masks
I mask my feelings
With a smile that doesn’t extend past my lips
I brush my eye lashes with dark mascara
To accentuate my openness.
I mask my insecurity
With simple words that sound profound
I twist my hair into a high ponytail
To gather my courage.
I mask my love
With blankets that warm the core
I curl in along your length
To calm my heart
And still death calls
With a baritone voice that trembles
I ride the notes, a breath at a time
To be in tune.
My mask is unveiled.
A forgery that fools no one.
I swim in naked tears
To smooth the way
Until the day I can reveal
My raw self without shivers
I dream of caravans that carry memories
Past the present to the future.
Shade
A canopy shades my eyes as the sun warms my arms.
I’m planted within the realm of duality.
Part in and part out.
I scan the garden greenery,
Delight in the heathers, the apple green of shiny new leaves.
The pale velvet lambs’ ear, against the vibrant peas and spinach.
In contrast the Ginkgo rises next to the shaking aspen,
Green flags waving in the breeze.
The depth of color declaratory with its array,
Assertive with distinction of spectrums.
Intermingles with perspectives.
Black and white, gray areas,
Shade still born, fixed in light or darkness.
The shadow echoes what is, void of passion
Reflections minus thirst. Twilight.
I enter the full sunlight, my entirety planted in green.
Moon
Midnight blue holds a full moon
Starry night that pulls me in
A spell of enchantments
A tug of hope
A wave of sparkles
A receding curtain
Ending days to
Bring in dreams
I feel the twinkle of stars on my lashes
Rainbow rings around an illuminated sphere,
Color my fears and quells my beating heart.
I sense the ocean swells of sea creatures
Deep below the surface.
Night time versus Daytime
Dark and Light
Give me night
To spread my wings
Give me day
To make a mark
I live between the full moon
And the rising sun
Enchanted
About Abbe
Abbe Rolnick grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland. Her first major cultural jolt occurred at age 15 when her family moved to Miami Beach, Florida. To find perspective, she climbed the only non-palm tree at her condo complex and wrote what she observed. History came alive with her exposure to Cuban culture. After attending Boston University, she lived in Puerto Rico, where she owned a bookstore. Once Stateside, she capitalized on the knowledge she gained as an independent bookstore owner and worked for one of the finest bookstores, Village Books, in Bellingham, Washington. Once a CEO of a manufacturing firm and owner of a healthy foods café, she is now retired and spends her time writing.
