Inspiration comes in fits and spurts, laced with time, warmed with the heart. Each of my offerings began with a whisper, a pause to see, hear, and reflect.

Life Savers

Life Savers

A relationship flounders
Dissolves
Flails
Like a drowning person
Who fights the saver
Pushing them down
To save oneself
A lifeline comes from behind
A preserver
Of breath
To survive
One needs to give distance
Resolve
Derail
Become the sounder
Who rises above
Braver

Dogwood

This year
The open-faced
Vanilla flowers
Peer up at me
From my office window
Full of hope
The best of blooms
I say goodbye
Happy for their blossoms

Big Eyes

Big Eyes

I noticed
Within seconds
The glassy-eyed stare
Of a child
Gone cold
Emotional temperature
Seeped through
Made my heart leap
Backwards
Embodied minor
Struggles
Oh, those eyes
Melt my innards
Speak unsaid words
A child with

Flower Bee

Flower Bee

Amongst the glamour
Of movie stars
All clammer
For attention
Unseen are the worker bees
Who tend the queen
Flowers flash their color
A showy display
For future days
The universe thrives
As do their hives.

Thoughts I Ponder with the Universe

Thoughts I Ponder with the Universe

Who would you like to talk to the rest of your life?

Sentimental declarations are records of a moment of clarity.
It isn’t always about you, or me, or anyone else, it might just be.
The laziness of labels stifles thoughtful contemplation makes us more ignorant, denies growth.
The universe answers back with more ponderings.

Tend Your Internal Garden

Tend Your Internal Garden

Welcome nighttime
When the eyes close
Over the day
Darkness covers the wilting sadness
Spent flowers rest
Sleep regenerates
Understanding
Light pries
open the eyelids
Growth awakens.

About Abbe

Abbe Rolnick grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland. Her first major cultural jolt occurred at age 15 when her family moved to Miami Beach, Florida. To find perspective, she climbed the only non-palm tree at her condo complex and wrote what she observed. History came alive with her exposure to Cuban culture. After attending Boston University, she lived in Puerto Rico, where she owned a bookstore. Once Stateside, she capitalized on the knowledge she gained as an independent bookstore owner and worked for one of the finest bookstores, Village Books, in Bellingham, Washington. Once a CEO of a manufacturing firm and owner of a healthy foods café, she is now retired and spends her time writing.
